Head Chef Kenji Miyaishi

Kenzo Napa Head Chef Kenji Miyaishi was raised in the Aichi Prefecture in Japan and attended Nihon University in Tokyo before completing culinary studies at Japan's esteemed Tsuji Culinary School. He went on to spend five years at Kousen restaurant in Tokyo before moving to the prestigious Masaki restaurant. His culinary talents then took him to Düsseldorf, Germany, where he was first the sous chef, then head chef at the Hotel Nikko's fine dining restaurant. He then joined Chef Yoshizumi Nagaya as the sous chef at his Michelin Star Nagaya, the only Japanese restaurant with a Michelin Star in Germany. Upon returning to Japan, Chef Miyaishi joined Kenzo Estate to head its Roppongi Hills restaurant in Tokyo, whose menu specializes in Japanese-French cuisine. He joined Kenzo Napa in the summer of 2018 where his inventive interpretation on traditional Kaiseki cuisine highlights seasonal delicacies from both Japan and the Napa Valley.

Philosophy

Philosophy

Kenzo Napa joins an elite culinary culture in Napa Valley, which boasts a stellar list of Michelin Star restaurant experiences. Already seasoned restaurateurs with five stunning Kenzo Estate restaurants and tasting rooms in their native Japan, Kenzo and Natsuko Tsujimoto spent years bringing their vision and signature concept to life in Napa.  Kenzo Napa’s menu philosophy is centered around shun, which in Japanese, is the idea of enjoying seasonal food at its peak. The word describes the exact moment that a vegetable is at its very best, a fruit ripe and sweet, and fish at its most flavorful. Our culinary team creates a new seasonal menu nearly six times a year, highlighting the best ingredients from both Japan’s land and sea, married with fresh local fare sourced from wine country farmers.
